What Is the Kee Track® Rigid Rail Lifeline?

The Kee Track® overhead rigid lifeline is a fixed track installed above the worker's head. A harness lanyard connects to a smooth-gliding trolley that runs along the rail, so the operator can walk the full length of the workspace hands-free while staying tethered. Because the rail is rigid - not a flexible cable - a fall is arrested in inches rather than feet, and the trolley moves with the worker instead of forcing them to swing across the work zone. That makes Kee Track® the standard specification for aircraft hangars, rail depot inspection pits, vehicle workshops, transformer access decks and any environment where ground clearance is tight or where a pendulum swing across equipment would be unacceptable. The modular component set lets the same engineered design adapt to metal profile, standing seam and membrane roofs without compromising the watertight envelope.

Why Choose a Rigid Rail Over a Cable Lifeline?

Cable-based horizontal lifelines stretch and deflect when a worker falls - the cable absorbs energy by elongating, which means the user can travel several metres before the system catches them, and any horizontal momentum becomes a hazardous swing across the work zone. A rigid rail eliminates both problems. The track does not deflect, so the arrest distance is the harness travel only - typically 30 to 60 cm. The trolley follows the worker along the rail, so there is no pivot point to swing around. For low-clearance work (aircraft, rail, vehicles) the rigid rail is often the only specification that meets fall-clearance calculation. For high-value or sensitive workspaces, eliminating swing means no damage to the equipment below the worker even when the system does its job.

Kee Track® Components and Engineering Features

Arrests a fall in 30 to 60 cm of harness travel - the rigid rail does not stretch, so total fall distance is the harness travel only. Modular component set - a small number of off-the-shelf parts adapt to straight runs, corners and complex track layouts. Hands-free operation - a lightweight trolley with sealed bearings glides under the worker's own movement; no second hand on a rope grab. Open-style low-profile posts - for metal profile and standing seam roofs - the post clamps to the seam without piercing the watertight envelope. Dedicated membrane base-plate and post family - for membrane roofs - non-penetrative installation preserves the roof warranty. CE-marked to BS EN 795:2012 Type D - the British and European standard specifically for rigid anchor lines, engineered and tested for multi-user fall arrest. Integrates with the Kee Safety mansafe range - including Kee Line® horizontal lifelines and Kee Anchor® personal anchor points.

Why UK Buyers Specify Kee Track®

Lower lifetime cost. Rigid rail systems need less maintenance and replacement work than tensioned cable - the cable in a horizontal lifeline degrades faster from cyclic loading, while the rail's mechanical action has no consumable parts.

  • Equipment protected from swing damage. A worker arrested by a cable can swing into the equipment below them; rigid rail removes that risk entirely - important on aircraft, transformers and high-value production lines.
  • Faster design and specification. Modular components and engineered post spacing mean a competent designer can size a Kee Track® system from a roof plan in hours, not days.
  • Lower chance of operator error. The trolley travels with the worker; there is no rope-grab to thread, no slack to manage, no orientation to get wrong before clipping on.
  • Authorised UK installer, OEM-backed. Mantech is a certified Kee Safety installer with over 25 years of mansafe installation experience and full Safe Contractor accreditation, so the product warranty stays intact and the install documentation passes HSE audit.

When to choose a rigid rail

A good fit when

  • Fall clearance below the worker is tight
  • People work on top of vehicles, trains or aircraft
  • A swing would hit valuable equipment
  • You want the lowest maintenance over the system life

FAQs

Questions about overhead rigid lifeline

Arrest distance, why a rigid rail rather than a cable, and where Kee Track can be fitted.

How far does a worker fall on a rigid rail?

The rail does not stretch, so the arrest distance is the harness travel only, typically 30 to 60 cm.

Why choose a rigid rail over a cable?

Cable lifelines deflect and can cause a swing. A rigid rail removes both, which matters for low-clearance work and around high-value equipment.

Can Kee Track be fitted to a roof?

Yes. Open-style low-profile posts clamp to metal profile and standing seam roofs, and a dedicated base-plate family suits membrane roofs, without piercing the envelope.
